NEW YORK TIMES: Brita Puts Its Brand in the Spotlight on a Univision Reality Show

A version of a popular reality competition series aimed at Hispanic viewers, which is to make its debut on Univision on Wednesday night, has a different title from its English-language TV counterpart as well as a somewhat different setup.

Click to view DaleConGana.comThe series, called “Dale con Ganas,” or “Give It Your All,” is inspired by “The Biggest Loser,” the weight-loss challenge that appears on Tuesday nights on NBC. “Dale con Ganas” is scheduled to run for 12 weeks at 10 p.m. Wednesday on the Univision network.

Dave Broome and his company, 25/7 Productions, which are among the producers of “The Biggest Loser,” are co-producing “Dale con Ganes” along with Estefan Film & Television Productions, in collaboration with the Univision Studios division of Univision Communications.

Amid Real-Estate Bust, Reality Programs Turn Attention to Foreclosure Deals

'Spike TV's 'Flip Men,' top, is among the new shows about buying foreclosed homes. Where are the hundreds of thousands of foreclosed homes in the U.S. ending up? On reality television.

This summer and fall, several TV networks are unveiling reality shows about buying foreclosed houses as a way to reinvent the popular "house flipping" formula, which proliferated in cable programming alongside the real-estate boom.

In September, Viacom Inc.'s Spike TV will premiere a new show called "Flip Men" about an entrepreneurial duo living in Salt Lake City who try to make big bucks in the foreclosure market. Later this summer, Bravo's hit reality show about house-flipper-turned-designer Jeff Lewis, called "Flipping Out," takes a personal turn in its fifth season when it shows Mr. Lewis wrangling with lenders in a quest to buy a foreclosed house to live in. A&E Television Networks, a joint venture among Walt Disney Co., Hearst Corp. and Comcast Corp.'s NBC Universal, recently tapped a former "Survivor" contestant to star in a new show later this year about flipping houses—some foreclosed—in Houston. And DIY Network, a division of Scripps Networks Interactive Inc., has a show in development about flipping foreclosed houses that could air in 2012.

Univision Adds Weight Loss Show From 'Biggest Loser' Creator Dave Broome, Emilio Estefan

Broome will co-produce "Si Se Puede" ("It’s Possible"), set to launch in January, with Estefan.

NEW YORK - Univision, the highest-rated Spanish-language network in the U.S., will early next year debut fitness and weight loss reality series Si Se Puede (It’s Possible) from The Biggest Loser creator Dave Broome and Emilio Estefan.

The weekly primetime competition show, described by the network as "geared towards Hispanic families who wish to lose weight and change their lives for the better," will showcase entertainment and sports personalities. It will be co-produced by Estefan Film and Television Productions and Broome’s 25/7 Productions, with production kicking off in L.A. in October.

The series will launch on Univision in January with online and mobile tie-ins.

The show joins a slew of new programming already announced for the coming season, which Univision Communications executives formally unveiled at their upfront presentation here Thursday afternoon.

"Si Se Puede is another example of the powerful, exclusive entertainment programming Univision brings to Hispanic America,” said Cesar Conde, president of Univision Networks. “This program featuring real life challenges will connect and entertain families like never before.”

The show will feature three to four families taking on various challenges, a panel of judges and a team of trainers and nutritionists.

"Exclusive elements of the program will be cross-integrated on Univision’s entertainment programs," the network said without providing specifics.

Univision also said the challenges on the show will include outdoor activities that will integrate outside audiences for an interactive experience.

A dedicated Web site will feature exclusive footage not seen on TV, contestant bios, weekly recaps and episodes on demand. Fans will also be able to follow a fitness regime with recipes and nutrition and exercise tips.

Via mobile devices, users will be able to vote for their favorite contestant, watch full episodes and receive text alerts for the latest on the program.

“I’m thrilled to be making this ground-breaking series with Univision, that will not only be fun and entertaining, but will also be motivational and hopefully inspire millions of people around the world,” said Broome.

“I’m proud to partner with Univision and Dave Broome to produce television that will promote healthier and happier families especially at a time when obesity amongst Latinos is at an all time high,” said Estefan.

Univision's version of The Biggest Loser is the network's second show brokered by William Morris Endeavor after Arrasa con Todo con Kmart (Sweep it All with Kmart), a game show set in a replica of a Kmart store where contestants compete in a series of supermarket challenges showcasing Kmart products.
